    As the title says.

For me its District 9, a docu/action scifi movie with rascit undertones.

and Ingloriuos Basterds. That looks like one sweet movie.

*looks into district 9* - scifi is good.

still havent seen T4, i hope its not a disappointment.

I cant stand tarintinos wildly overrated pap movies sorry, even the best of them are simply a hollywood ultra-cool moment or 2 strung out into a movie. Its like a bag of cheezels....small bursts of incredibly artifical flavour with no actual substance or aftertaste, and its very unhealthy. Trying to pas it off as a gourmet restaruant is called marketing. <rant over>

I know this isnt a review session but if i can just choose 2 that have been rewarding (i tend to watch movies that ARNT quite mainstream hollywood):
Pans Labyrinth (R16 - maybe more to understand some of it)
Requiem for a dream (R18 probably)

Terminator 4 is a really great movie, except there is a LOT of stormtrooper shooting, and not the SS kind, the star wars kind.

And nuclear bombs are portrayed badly. Plus the bad ending (well, I thought it was good but it was obvous it could have been better). But awesome, make sure you watch it with a good home theatre system.

Having only seen one of Tarintino's movies I'm not really qualitfied to say anything but I quite enjoyed the tone of the movie. It's got awesome moments but only because everything else isn't. I like movies that are like that where they make stuff seem awesome when it probably isn't.

The video game portal is a good example of this, the shootout in No Country for Old Men is another, the matrix is another good one (the first), and I could name more.

Thery're the kinds of movies that don't really fit a genre. They're not action, though they have action scenes, they're not comedy, even though they have funny moments, they're not drama, even though there is great acting. So uh, I don't really know is that defines Quentin's movies, but I do know that it defines the movies i think are awesome.

I think thats a really good reply. The kind of movie that was never meant to simply fill a slot (or genre), but instead is a roller coaster ride of emotion/action/intrigue. And as often as not they arnt in english Sad

I was saying to elle on MSN that i think the best way to watch movies like that is to have them recommended by someone you trust, andc then watch them without having seen a trailer, an ad, a review, somebody else opinion or anything that will give you any preconceived ideas whatsoever. Then you actually get to se the movie as the director intends. Otherwise you will always have some kind of preconception, even if its simply knowing the movie is sci-fi futuristic.

Sometimes a movie takes so long to come out that I find out it whole plot before I see it. Well, not the whole plot, but when your reading reviews it's pretty hard not to piece together what the movies about.

I think you should try watch movies your interesed in as soon as possiable so you have less chance of 1) finding out plottwists etc
    2) forgetting about your wish to watch it and missing out on a great movie.

Just watched District 9. Large volumes of awesome were released. Avoid contaminating your mind with trailers, reviews and bullshit, that is all.

<edit> - i should add, its not dumbed down hollywood - may not be suitable for younger viewers.

Well, it is a Peter jackson movie. He used to do some pretty gory stuff.

Ah, there was another mov, yes, that was it. i want to see Shaun of the Dead.

Oh yeah, aside from cool as smart movies I also love dumb action comedys. Cause sometimes you just need to watch people doing crazy stuff and cracking jokes.

Shaun of the dead ? Bring your memory stick over with 716916 kb free on it, shaun has a reserved spot on my HDD. District 9 is 1.4gb but i think its worth paying to see it on the bigscreen, id watch it again. BTW i dont think PJ had much to do with the making of it, apart from writing out the cheque.

Apparently it's a part of a 'blood and icecream' trilogy. Shaun of the Dead is a rasberry corneto (red for blood), Hot Fuzz is a vannila cornetto (blue for thepolice), and the last cornetto is mint (green for aliens). So the guys who made Shaun and Hot Fuzz are gonna make a scifi comedy soon. Its gonna be sweet.

Just finished watching Serenity. Sci-fi space-based fantasy sort of thing. Bit disappointed, it was recommended and supplied by som eone with decent tastes. On the surface the menu was good, you know, delicious sounding names, good ingredients. But an overly large, unrequested, side helping of cheese and cliches detracted from the main course. Dessert was predictable too. Standard fare background music, and cheap furnishings made the meal acceptable but not memorable, certainly wouldnt rush back there to entertain friends.

Yeah, serinity is a good movie. I'd rate it above average and below good. Average being Sahara, Lord of the Rings, Matrix 2, and your average Jackie Chan movie and good being Watchmen, Predator, Bambi, and Matrix 1.

It makes more sense if you are a fan of the origonal TV series. Or a fan of Joss Weadon.

I like the not-so-future technology. Any setting that has culture of technolgy significantley different to our own is hard to relate to. EG, a book I read where everything was controlled by nano machines and some kind of meta mind. It took half the book to realise that they were just making up fancy words and slapping them on an otherwise really good detective story.
